Cornerstone 3: Access to Mental Health Consultation & Support

Families, child care programs, providers have access to mental health consultation to fully support the social-emotional development of children and mental health of adults.

Build Awareness for Infant & Early Childhood
Mental Health (IECMH)

  • Promote Jefferson County mental health landscape map and incorporate resources to website through partnership with 211 Colorado.

    • Outcome: Community members and service providers have a single place (hub) to find a continuum of local mental health and wellness resources.

  • Train culturally responsive navigators, family liaisons, home visitors, nurses and other community-based providers on the importance of mental health promotion, prevention and treatment and how to navigate mental health resources with the families they serve.

    • Outcome: Service providers are equipped to quickly connect families with mental health and wellness resources resulting in earlier identification and help, stronger caregiver relationships, and reduced stigma.

  • Implement a public outreach campaign that will improve understanding for parents and providers about the importance of prevention, workplace support, health promotion, mental health supports and how to access the just-right mental health professional.

    • Outcome: Public education about early childhood as a critical period for brain and emotional development strengthens advocacy for funding early intervention, parenting supports, and equitable access to services.

Strengthen Provider Relationships to Improve Connections & Reduce Stress& Reduce 

  • Host at least three professional events per year to foster relationships and mutual support among IECMH workforce.

    • Outcome: Increased recruitment and retention: Early childhood mental health professionals are supported, developed, and sustained in a thriving workplace.

  • Support the recruitment of mental health consultants through clarifying career paths and professional development options

    • Outcome: Increased number of mental health professionals available to support families with young children.

Colorado Perinatal Mental Health Project (CO PMHP)

Increase Access to Culturally Responsive Parenting
& Caregiver Support for Families 

  • Launch a dashboard for local mental health consultant program and contact information, calendar of parenting group offerings, resources and trainings.

    • Outcome: Families benefit from strong coordination, collaboration, advocacy, and mutual support among a wide range of early childhood organizations, from grassroots groups to large institutions.

  • Develop family-informed public education opportunities to share IECMH support group resources with families.

    • Outcome: Increased family access to mental health support.
